The grapes come from their own vineyards located in La Seca (Valladolid). These are planted on slopes facing south, with the intention of taking advantage of the hours of sunshine necessary for optimum ripening of the grapes.
The climate of the area is characterized by dry and hot summers and cold and long winters, with night frosts that reach -18ºC, and with very pronounced thermal differences between day and night, ideal for a correct ripening of the grape.
The production of Protos Verdejo begins with a harvest and transport of the grapes in boxes of 20kg, to later select them manually in the cellar.
Once the grapes have been selected, a rigorous maceration and fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature of 14ºC with the aim of maintaining the maximum degree of freshness possible in this Protos Verdejo.

When we talk about Rueda wine we talk mainly about white wine. Wine made from the Verdejo variety, the queen variety in Rueda, planted on the banks of the Duero River and its tributaries. Rueda wine is a wine with many floral memories, low mountain herbs, delicate aromas and a magnificent acidity due to the strong temperature differences between day and night. Apart from white wine, Rueda also produces some red wine, mainly from the Tempranillo variety.
La Ribera del Duero tells us about an ancestral tradition that dates back to the eleventh century already used by the monks of the Cistercian Order, of peasants and terroirs, of a vast wine kingdom that sinks its roots in the Middle Ages and whose footprint is hidden In the essence of its villages, its villas and its Peñafiel Castle, one of the most important fortresses of the region, whose entrails are still the Protos aging winery, which was the first winery in the area , together with Vega Sicilia, in selling bottled wines from the Ribera del Duero.
Protos Verdejo has been chosen Best young white wine from Spain by the prestigious Gourmets Guide 2019.

Protos Verdejo 2018 is a straw-yellow wine with greenish hues that indicate youth.
Very clean and bright. On the nose, aroma of medium-high and complex intensity. Highlights include fresh tropical fruits such as pineapple and citrus, along with a white fruit, apple, and herbaceous, boxwood and fennel typical of the Verdejo variety.
In the mouth it is a dry wine, with an entrance that unites the freshness that provides a moderate and balanced natural acidity with the roundness, body and structure that brings the aging on fine lines. Slightly bitter, characteristic of Verdejo and with a long persistence that leaves a pleasant memory of the wine in the mouth.
