VEGA SICILY SINGLE RED SPECIAL RESERVE

The wine with more history behind it and more representative of the most important Spanish winery of all time, Vega Sicilia, also stands as the most complex to understand. Vega Sicilia Único Special Reserve goes on the market without adding, precisely because it feeds on the highest of the different and limited crops of Vega Sicilia Unico. The Special Reserve that we present to you is the 2019 edition.

The elaboration of this mythical Ribera del Duero is due to a viticultural philosophy in danger of extinction that starts with the elaboration of the Vega Sicilia Unico of a single vintage. At the moment in which the winemaker decides to assemble the barrels of the Unique, they separate the best ones that either continue raising the wine they store, or pass into wooden vats.

That wine will be stored until such time as it is your turn to participate in the Special Reserve. The most common is that the technical director of the winery make a previous assembly of two vintages and, in a timely manner, complete the final ‘coupage’ with the third of the crops. Subsequently, the assembly ages for a time in wooden vats before resting for a period in the bottle of at least four more years before beginning its commercialization. An absolute synergy between the nobility of the oak, the grape race and the calm in the bottle.

Processing and breeding

Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial is a coupage of the Tinto Fino, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties. The grape is harvested after a thorough process of grain selection. Transport to the winery is done using small boxes, so that the grapes do not break and do not lose the freshness that characterizes it. Already in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and then macerated at a controlled temperature. The must of Vega Sicilia Unique Special Reserve obtained carries out a first fermentation in various wooden and stainless steel containers. Later it ages for two years in large-capacity wood deposits. Ultimately and before being bottled, it rests at least 18 months in new barrels and another 30 months in used barrels.

The red wine D.O. Ribera del Duero Vega Sicilia Unique Reserva Reserva Tinto Reserva combines very well with roasted lamb. Instead of roast lamb you can also combine the Vega Sicilia Unico Reserva Reserva Tinto Reserva with beef stew or game meat or roasted vegetables.

Unico Reserva Especial 2018 is made up of 58 barrels with vintages, among others, from 2005, 2006 and 2007.

It is the Vega Sicilia that has no vintage and is the tribute to tradition. Unico Reserva Especial is a true reflection of the cult of Spanish wine history that perfectly combines the qualities of different Unico crops.
